Are the holidays a time to catch up or fall behind?

Well, shoot. It’s been a while since I’ve done the whole extended family holiday banquet thing. I think I was about twenty before I realized that “Oh, good, you’re here. Go baste the turkey.” is not generally speaking a standard greeting. Do I even remember the last time there was a get-together I wanted to go to? No. Not really. There’s just a point at which you realize… I don’t wanna.

I like to keep holidays to a minimum, to be quite honest. Getting time off from work would be like pulling teeth, and so would preparing a meal for a few dozen of my closest friends and relatives. And the more crappy day jobs I rack up? The less I like making someone else do those things for me. (So, these days, I’m more likely to throw in a TV dinner than to sneak out to Waffle House.)

So, where am I? No extra time to work on my own projects… no less time to work on them… Uhm… status quo, heading forward.

It’s good to know your limits when thinking about cooking for a large group of family and friends. Going to Waffle House sounds fun. Happy Holidays!

I grew up with big family get togethers, but once I got married and had my own family, that no longer happened. My brother and his wife have 7 kids, and they always conflict with my husband, and my parents have taken up a mobile lifestyle to run away from cold weather so they’re no longer around for the holidays. So holiday dinners are pretty much like any other dinner at our house, only with a few more desserts than normal. It certainly reduces the stress.

Hope you have a great rest of the year!
