Starting a New Project

This week, I started a new project. It’s something I’ve been kicking around on and off for a while, now.

Hello, new and shiny thing.

I did a little bit of premise building with a novel-writing course that I’ve had on the back burner. It spun the thing off in a direction I might never have taken without some forethought, and… for now, at least, what I’m coming up with has been very organized and chronological. I’m actually very pleased with myself. As pantser-y pantsy-pantsing goes, it’s not bad.

It’s still possible that I jumped in before the course really said GO.

I could feel my mind starting to wander away from it, so there wasn’t much choice in the matter.

I just couldn’t answer any more of those questions, and still write the story I wanted. I might go back to them, later on.

Part of the problem is that classes tend to assume you’re starting from square one, and I wasn’t. I almost never am.

I don’t consider it a failure or a waste, but more a matter of cherry-picking other peoples’ processes for the elements that work for me. So, moving right along…
